When taking a breakdancing class one of the first moves taught is how to do headspins. Headspins are fairly easy to learn and combined with other breakdancing moves, can look really impressive. When you are first starting out, be sure to always wear a helmet for protection. This article will show you how to do basic headspins from start to finish.
- Balance on your head. In order to learn how to do headspins you have to first learn how to balance on your head. Kneel down onto your knees. Carefully lean forward onto the top of your head. Your hands should be flat on the ground in front of you, forming a equilateral triangle with your head. Slowly bring your legs all the way up off the ground and point them straight in the air. All of your weight should now be comfortably on your head and hands. Keep practicing this position until you can steadily balance yourself without being wobbly. Once you have learned this you can move on the the next step.
- Twist your hips. While balancing on your head, spread your legs to a ninety degree angle. Practice twisting your hips from side to side.
- Untwist your hips. Now you are ready to try headspins. Twist your hips clockwise and then untwist them as fast as you can. Keep your legs spread apart and keep your balance steady and centered. Lift your hands off the ground when your body starts to spin. When your body starts to slow down, place your hands back on the ground and twist your hips clockwise again and untwist them as fast as you can to start spinning again.
- Keep practicing. Learning how to do headspins require practice. Start from the headstand position and keep practicing your hip twists and spinning for short amounts of time. Eventually you will master how to spin for longer periods without having to place your hands on the ground as often.
